Many of us do not know what it was like to be one of the cool kids in school, and many of us spend our whole lives trying to achieve the popularity we did not have back in school. To do this they will spend all their money on material possessions to try to become more popular, instead of just being themselves.
Bikes and Hot Rods: The first thing people do to try to improve their image is to buy a sports car, a sport bike or a Harley Davidson, because some people see these things as status symbols, and someone who can afford that kind of status must be cool.
Wardrobe: People also thing that the way they dress will make them seem cool to others, so they spend thousands of dollars every few months buying the latest fashions in hopes that others will think they are cool because they are on the cutting edge of fashion.
Music: People who are looking to improve their image in certain social groups will spend the time finding out what music is hip with those people and will adopt that music as their favorite music, in an attempt to make others think they are cool.
Casino gambling and Poker: due to the popularity of poker on TV many people have not only taken up playing poker, but they think it is cool to not only dress like the famous poker players, but they have to wear patches for different sponsors like the professional poker players do. Just remember that playing poker, blackjack or roulette may make you seem cool, but games like keno, pachinko or bingo will definitely make you seem like a dork, unless you win millions of dollars.
Accessories: Thanks to Hip Hop many people think that if you want to be cool you must have lots of gold and silver, and when it comes to Bling, bigger equals cooler. But for the most part these people spend thousands on these pieces of jewelry that makes them look stupid.
Physical Fitness: in recent years many people have decided that if you want to look cool you have to belong to a gym, the people in the gym that are there just to look cool are always easy to spot. They are usually found sitting at the juice bar or in the hot tub. If they do ever actually do any type of workout it is usually ridding a bike for 5 minutes and before they even break a sweat they have to stop.
But the truth is that cool is not about what you have and how you look it is about who you are, and if you are choosing your car, your clothes, your music and anything else so that other people will believe you are cool and not because you enjoy these things then as cool as you may think you are, is in direct proportion to how cool you are not.
Being cool is not about wanting to be cool, being cool is about not caring what other people think and living life to its fullest, and in doing this you will find others with the same interests and these people will think of you as cool.
So I guess the key to being cool is just to make friends with people who enjoy the same things you enjoy and in doing so you will find that as your self image increases your need to be cool decreases, and then you will be cool.
